I use a standard hitch carrier with some 3/4 inch plywood bolted to it. I then use a Python cable lock run around the generator and the frame of the carrier and a nylon ratchet strap to hold it down. This also works on the front of the truck when hauling the truck camper. To protect from weather I bought a nylon cover from Academy Sports for a small outboard motor for $6 to cover it over the Python lock and the ratchet strap and it is held in place with a bungee cord. Here is a picture with it on the front of my truck.
