Honda EU2000i Companion ?

I am new to camping. After my research we found we wanted to go with the two Honda Generators. We are just going to buy one for now, then add the other if even needed. my question is should i get the EU2000I Companion or the regular one first? My AC unit is 5000btu.

Of course you do ... the Companion has a 30 amp twist lock receptacle so if you want to plug a 30 amp male RV plug into it you need an adapter, this being an example. If (like me) one owns just one EU2000i there's really no advantage to the Companion over the standard model with which you'd use a 15 amp male > 30 amp female dogbone adapter anyway in order to plug the trailer's 30 amp main service cable into the genset.
  • For the extra money they charge for the companion, I'd just use an adapter with the standard model.
Personally I'd buy blue or yellow over the honda.

I still need an adapter on mine. The 30A trailer plug will not go directly into the generator.
  • My guess is that a single 2000i will run your 5000BTU A/C.
I bought my Honda before the Companion came out and don't see an issue with using an adapter.

  • The only advantage the Companion has is the 30 amp receptacle. I would probably buy the regular one first since you may never need the Companion.
