Yes, the a/c could be the problem. But why rule out the generator at this point?
A simple, 5 minute current test with a clamp-on ammeter will quickly determine whether the problem is in the TT or with the generator. If this test shows excessive current load in the TT, turning each 120v breaker on and off (in the TT) will quickly narrow the problem down to the exact appliance(s) causing the overload condition.
If this was your TT, and the troubleshooting was being done on your dime to the tune of an $100 an hour, which approach would you choose?
That sounds like a good approach... Of course you will have to have a clamp on amp meter testerer thingy...
