Honda eu3000 overload running carrier air v for 5 minutes

I have a carrier air v air conditioner on top of my 16 foot carson fun runner. My honda eu 3000 starts the air conditioner no problem. But after 5 to 7 minutes the generator trips the overload alarm and shuts down.

Any ideas on what might be causing this issue? I must admit I dont know much about generators, trailer electronics, or generators. The generator is a 2004 and I am the second owner. Estimating the hours of use is impossible (no hours meter). It seems to run good and doesnt have a problem with the microwave. Although I have never run the microwave more than a couple of minutes at a time. When I run the air I keep everything off ie microwave, refrigerator, lights, etc.

Thanks,

Paul

Make sure water heater is set to gas as well as fridge and also turn off eco switch on generator. My EU3000 would run my ac at 5k ft.

I think the frig is elec only. But I turned it off when trying the air anyway. And yes the eco switch is set to off.

If I unhook the batteries do you think that will help? Could it be that the battery charger in the trailer is coming on to charge the batteries and that flips the breaker on the generator?
  • Make sure water heater is set to gas as well as fridge and also turn off eco switch on generator. My EU3000 would run my ac at 5k ft.
  • Lastly, I'm using the air in apple valley, CA. Stoddard wells road. Last weekend 102 degrees. Elevation 2900 feet.
  • Also, we hooked up a 7000 watt 7500 max generator to the toy hauler and the air worked great. But the generator belongs to a friend of mine. He uses it in his construction business. It's very loud, uses gobbs of gas, and is just not practile for camping.

Did you turn off the converter, too (via the 120v breaker panel)? It can add an additional 1-10 amp load to your generator (actual load is dependent on the battery's state of charge).

    Thank you all for responding.

Sorry to be so dumb, but what is the converter your asking about?

Everything is off as far as I know. Waer heard, frig, lights etc.

Thank you for your responses and patience.
  • Yeah, something else has to be running. Do you have an outside fridge? As mentioned, is the water heater in electric mode?

you are at your max with the A/C on. turn everything else off or to gas.

With a 13.5 a/c unit? No way, the Honda still has some legs in it to carry some more load. Just for fun I've seen these units carry the a/c unit and the microwave before overloading.

I'm guessing everything is good on shore power?

  • Does it have a electric water heater and is it off or on gas?
