honda genny security

Hey all, I've read hundreds of posts on how to keep thieves from stealing honda gennies. I just bought a honda 2000i to take along and I figure the best way to keep it safe is to make other people think it's something else. I bought a medium dog kennel and blocked off the vents and kennel door with black painted plastic. That way to the casual walk by it looks like a empty kennel. NOW that being said if someone was keeping an eye on me they would notice the cord sticking out of the kennel when I'm using it (and no dog). If I locked it up tight then others would KNOW for sure that I have something valuable.
A buddy said I should put it in a lockable box and use my old and broken kawasaki gennie as a decoy. LOL.
  • sorry to burst your bubble, but 10 seconds with a screw extractor on my cord less drill will allow me to remove that latch, without even fooling with the lock

You can have the generator if you can get the top off in 10 seconds with a cordless drill and screw extractor :R (guess you meant impact socket set). The bolts that you see have lock nuts on the inside of the box. Your cordless drill would loosen the bolt 1/4 turn then spin. Sorry to burst your bubble.:)

The point was out of sight out of mind. Besides 95% of crooks are opportunists they don't carry cordless drills with the right size of socket on them. Cordless grinder with cutting disc might get through the lock in a minute or two.
  • I guess it all boils down to keep it out of sight locked up and hope for the best. If a thief is willing to go through that much trouble to get it not much is going to deter him aside from me pulling my 45acp. And let's face it nobody wants it to go that far. (sorry macho men).

What paranoia.. no matter what you do, if somebody wants it bad enough, they'll get it. So don't worry about it till it happens...then it's to late to worry!
  • correct ... security is not 100% in any categorie.

security is to deter - to make someone want to go elsewhere - to not bother you ... make it difficult so they will go somewhere else.

some thieves/rebels enjoy the challenge and will get what they want at any cost. when that happens- we/you have a choice to make

SO, thus the "right to bare arms" --- the worlds coming to it folks --- chose to ignore and you'll regret it one day. we chose to pay attention (and believe) that history repeats itself. But, in this area, far too many think it doesn't apply to this right!

We are so gullible its unreal

I make it a point NOT to visit states that don't allow me to CARRY.
I also try to my stuff as secure as possible. In FL it has been known for thieves to come to your campsite and steal your surf rods while you sleep. I lock mine and attach a little bell to them while I sleep.
