honda genny security

Hey all, I've read hundreds of posts on how to keep thieves from stealing honda gennies. I just bought a honda 2000i to take along and I figure the best way to keep it safe is to make other people think it's something else. I bought a medium dog kennel and blocked off the vents and kennel door with black painted plastic. That way to the casual walk by it looks like a empty kennel. NOW that being said if someone was keeping an eye on me they would notice the cord sticking out of the kennel when I'm using it (and no dog). If I locked it up tight then others would KNOW for sure that I have something valuable.
A buddy said I should put it in a lockable box and use my old and broken kawasaki gennie as a decoy. LOL.
  • Paint it green and write "Onan" on it - no one would touch it...! :) ST
  • Our Honda 3000 is locked with a cable lock. If we leave, it is in the 5er or locked in my truck.

    Got a link?
I have looked hard for such a thing and never found one. I figure that the price would be real reasonable.

  • Like Roy said, Only way is out-of-sight and out-of mind.

IMO Only way is out-of-sight and out-of mind.

My 2KW Honda is secured in the bed of my truck bed which also is lockable. My Honda Generator goes where I go.

'NO WAY WOULD I LEAVE MY HONDA 2KW GENERATOR AT A CAMPGROUND' unattended...

I pull it out onto my tailgate at 8AM each morning for three hours to re-charge my 255AH battery bank when camping off the power grid so that we can do all of this all over again the next day/night run off the batteries..

Been doing it this way since 2009

But this is only me talking...

  • I put a padlocked chain through generator's handle and run it though rear stabilizers. That won't stop a serious thief with hacksaw, but it will keep someone from just walking off with it.
