Check valve inside nipple on HOT out....cheap plastic JUNK
As Doug pointed out....replace with BRASS
BUT ----I prefer shutoff valves vs any check valves.
One on each...cold/Bypass/Hot and NO check valves
IF noise is 'hissing' then scale/crud on electric heat element.
Vinegar or CLR soak and then really good flush/rinse
OR just replace element
