It's like using Fram oil filters on a $15,000 diesel motor, or firing up your Champion generator in a WalMart parking lot while overnighting, so you can run your A/C. Cheap and offensive.
Silicon is residential grade. Fine for really hard shiny polished surfaces like tile and granite around sinks, porcelain toilets and marble, but not really pliable enough for trailer/motorhome applications that are mobile on rough roads.
While silicon repels water, it repels just about everything else that you would want to adhere when replacing it.
