I'm with you. Hard to get off and the manufacturer uses it. Kinda makes a person think it's not all bad. I use it all the time except on the rubber roof.
The other thing is some of us go to places that are very hot. Make sure your replacement caulk can handle it without melting. (High quality) Silicone for windows and doors is used throughout the country on new home construction without any issues.
