Sink the ground rod,, 2 of 'em, 10 feet into perma-moist soil (LIke where the air conditioner drips. One is ok but I'd go with two.
Also put a ground block on the coax or better yet a lightening arrestor type.
For safety. if lightening threatens,, Disconnect at mast base (Put the ground block on the mast say 3-6 feet from ground) and remove coax to trailer to storage compartment.. Of course you can not watch TV this way. but Well.. In the event the mast takes a strike, the EMP will fry your electroincs.. So it's your choice.
Radio tower behind my office once took a direct hit.... Office is perhaps 200 yards away (And as a radio dispatcher we used that tower) and underground.. IT was STILL impressive.
What was even more impressive: EVERYTHING STILL WORKED after the computers rebooted.
