I really need to find a piece of that 3M tape as that sounds unbelievable. I have a lot of other projects that are not as heavy and that tape sounds like a perfect solution.
As far as the resolution to my blind hanging question, I like fastening a flat board (1x3) across the top of the window using the 1x1 window frame and some ell brackets, then fasten my new blind to it.
That is a perfectly workable solution and MY choice of the ideas. I'll get a nice 1x4 hardwood and work it down to the exact width for the blind bracket, then sand, stain and seal to match the rest of our decor.
I will also convince the DW to look at the 2" blinds instead of the 2 1/2 inchers.
