1. WHY would you think a defective Evaporator is the cause of freezing????
2. Freezing on the evap is NOT always a sign of low Freon/410. It is sometimes a normal product of the temp/humidity and you can move the freeze sensor to a better spot to minimize the attempted freezing.
3. Yes, there are problems with the newer AC units. BLAME the government. Once they outlawed Freon 22, they had to come up with 410a that required HIGHER pressures and there was a learning curve to determine failure of compressors due to the higher pressures. Dometic has a larger market share and as the failures came up, changed the design of the compressors to handle the higher pressures. So, there appears to be more Dometic failures than RVP(Coleman). RVP, rarely has Compressor failures, as they use a different type compressor.
4. Due to this, I would buy an extended warranty from Dometic for my Dometic AC. Doug
