how many batteries

put a deposit on a small jayco toy hauler (octane 222). will pick it up next week. will be mostly used in campgrounds but few times a year i go to nascar races for 3-4 days at a time. have a generator to run during day as necessary but concerned about keeping fridge and furnace running at nite.
how many batteries should i ask for? 1 or 2 12 volts or two 6 volt gc2 batteries?
  • For a long cold night, I'd want 2 batts either 12 or 6 volt.
  • WE have 2 12V batteries.......can run off batteries 2 days if needed.

We also have generator.........I run it for at least 4 hours each day to keep batteries charged

    Fridge uses very little DC

Furnace.........it is a DC Hog and can draw batteries down overnight.

Battery 'amp hours' is key. 2 ---6V will have more than 1 ---12V
  • One group 27 battery might be fine. I would worry more about how well the converter will charge. Some are very slow fixed voltage chargers.
  • If you have a a good (Nascar) generator,, By that I mean one that is really really loud and rattles and has a ton of racing stickers on it, then you should be fine with two 12 volt Wal Mart batteries,, couple of group 29 batteries should provide lighting and run the water pump. Keep the fridge on propane and you'll be good to go!!

Had our trailer in the Vegas infield, they put us next to one of those portable light generators,, It had two open 110v plugs so I ran a cord off to it at night and we were good all the way till Monday morning with power!! For $50 they even flushed our tanks and refilled our water tank!!
  • Liken this to a huge dump truck with a tiny engine.

Fill the dump bed to the brim with earth. But the truck won't move. The power is too tiny, just like with huge batteries and a small solar panel.
  • We have (2) six volts with a small solar panel.

We run the fridge on propane when boondocking. The furnace will draw a lot of power if using on 12 volt and will draw them down if it is running quite a lot.

But, two six volts seem to be the recommended for RV use
