OK -- let's see if we can't overcome the slide problem. Remember the idea of wall-mounted vertical side brackets with a one-foot horizontal connector and a long bar connecting the two bracket assemblies? Instead of a foot separating the supports, you could make each side bracket assembly wide enough to span the opening to each slide, with removable cross pieces.
To put it a little more clearly -- on each side of each slide opening, mount a vertical "floor to ceiling" piece. There will be four of them. Connect each pair with a long bar. Instead of using permanent bolts for those top cross bars, use quarter inch hex bolts and wing-nuts, with washers. Thus, when it is time to pull in the slides, the cross bars will be easy to remove.
Then, connect the two sets of side supports with one or more cross-bars, extending all the way across the width of the trailer. Again, those bars should be fastened with bolts and wing-nuts.
or as I mentioned 100 posts ago, make an overgrown saw horse type of support and just turn it 90 degrees N/S to pull in slides.
