I use the stainless screen on both the Hot water heater and Furnace.
I had no problem with installation, just obtain the correct one for your vehicle.
They serve as insurance against mud daubers and other flying insects. The screens insure against a blocked flue. Some spiders are attracted to the smell of propane and have created problems for me in the past.
