Wow, great ideas, and fast, too! Yes, this is wire rope, and yes, it is properly spooled -- if it looks the least bit messy when I am done, I pull it out and re-spool. And there is no room to get the tow vehicle involved -- very tight quarters. No room to turn the trailer around. You can't imagine how small the lots are in California -- we have a 1700 square foot house on an 8000 square foot lot, and that is considered to be fairly spacious. When we travel out of southern Calif. to other areas of the country, we are always struck by how much room everyone has, and how big the driveways and garages are.
Anyway, I really like the idea of a pulley pivoting at the "aim point," with the winch in back of it -- that would relieve all side pressure on the drum. I have a snatch block that I can use for that purpose, if I sink a bolt into the driveway to anchor it. I also like the idea of securing the winch plate with various bolts with different orientations, so that I can swivel the winch so that it always faces the direction of the pull. I am not sure which solution I will try, but it will be fun to experiment.
Thanks!
