Why do some people frown on using electric heat and maxing out a 30 amp pedestal when in the summertime, many RV-ers are running AC units (sometimes pushing their luck with 2 of them on 30 amps) along with other loads and nobody, including CG owners, care? Only maybe twice have we had a CG say when reserving a site that power is a problem from AC units due to hot weather.
The NEC is waay behind on all the newer high-demand RVs being sold these days. The most 50 amp pedestals you'll find (unless an owner has voluntarily built above min. code) is 20% of the sites and before 2005, only 5% was required. Not many new CGs are getting built and and it can be dang hard to find 50 amps. And for the 50 amp RVs "forced" to run on 30 amps, with enough of them, they can be causing a CG electrical system to be taxed to the max and nobody bats an eye.
With so many CG electrical systems being pushed to the limits in the summer, an autoformer can be the only way in some cases to keep going. We bought a Hughes unit 2 season ago and sure glad we did because it's def. needed once in a while or our EMS would be shutting us down. Have read that some CGs prohibit the use of them tho.
