How to remove this type of hollow wall anchor?

I need to remove a few hollow wall anchors from drywall of the type shown in the link below. I know I could rip them out and make a big hole, but I was wondering if there was any way to "expand" them...

That's an excellent idea, I might try that first. If I can countersink it enough in the drywall, spackle will do the rest. If that doesn't work I've got plenty of other ideas to work with now.
