How to tell what Refrigerator Vent Cover to buy

Hello,

I just got my 5th wheel out of storage last evening. It has been in outside storage for over 2 years while I was dealing with health issues. It of course is filthy and needs some cleaning as well as removal of the front decal which is almost totally gone.

I am fortunate that when the RV is in my driveway I can see the roof of it from my front porch. The issue I see is that the vent cover for the refrigerator is broken and needs replaced.

I have a Dometic refrigerator in the RV and wanted to know which vent cover to purchase. I can't get up on the roof due to my health so the fortunate thing in paying for 2 daughters weddings is I now have two very healthy son in laws that can do the work for me!

Can anyone tell me how to know which cover to order to replace the current broken one? Is it as simple as if you have Dometic frig you order a Dometic cover?

Thanks!

Dave

I bought the Camco cover for my old trailer several years ago. It was a universal fit for Dometic and Norcold and had indentations for 2 sets of mounting holes. You drill out the set of holes for your brand. Easy install in about 5 minutes and nice cover too, better than the original from Dometic.
  • OP here,

    Thanks everyone for your responses.

I stopped by my local RV place and purchased the CAMCO cover. Got it for $6 less than anywhere online which kind of surprised me. I always assumed that online had better deals.

Son-in-law had it installed in less than 10 minutes!

    Thanks again!

  • I just replaced mine with a Camco universal one and am very happy with my choice!

About $20 regular price. It is marked for Dometic or Norcold bolt patterns, you just drill out whatever bolt pattern you need and install with the included screws.
Thicker plastic than the original, looks like it should hold up well.
  • Dometic changed the design of the refer roof vent. You have to purchase the complete Mount and Cover and replace the screwed in mount on the roof. Until they changed, you just purchased the roof vent and it had 4 screws holding it on. You may be able to find a supplier that still has an old style. Doug
  • Best bet is to send one of those youngsters up there with their cell phone. Get pics from all angles and take that along to the RV store. Between those pics and knowing the brand of Refrigerator you should be able to get what you need.
  • Since your buying one anyway, look into one that has a fan in it. The fan helps move air thru the flue which will be a marked improvement in cooling. esp if your in a warmer climate.

The covers do seem to be standardized however.
  • For what it's worth, take the old one off and take it with you. That may save you a trip. Good hunting
