Before you go making modifications......
Take a look at ye old 120 volt power distribution center (Breaker Box) Is there one labeled CONV? If so, then while on shore power, turn on some interior 12 volt lights (The more the better) and turn it off,, Do the lights dim a bit? GOOD
now check to make sure all outlets, Fridge, Water heater, and such still work on 120 volts.. If so.. That's your OFF switch right there.
NOTE 2: IF the fridge switches to gas.. That too is a good thing, likewise the water heater.. You want those on GAS when plugged into the inverter.
If there are some outlets dead.. Well decide how important they are.. I loose about half my outlets when I loose mains power. (The other half are on the sub panel)
Next: What is the make and model of your converter?
Many RVs have something like a Parallex 7300 or, if older Magnetek 6300 On those I'd recommend an in-line inverter like my Prosine 20000
If yours is a 30 amp rig (The prosine can pass 30 amps)
Shore cord--30 amp breaker---Prosine--Main power panel and disconnect the old converter, Tape off the wire that feeds it.
You will have to manually switch Fridge, Water heater and A/Cs though.
