When the LP gas valve will open behind the white knob, the main burner will have the LP supplied. When the temperature is reached the valve will close shutting down the main burner leaving the pilot lit.
OK thanks. I take it from that there should be a clockwise clunk behind the white knob before you try to light the main burner?
I believe it is cold enough in the camper so the main burner should fire up. There is a sort of oven-like thermometer on a wire to inside the camper just below the furnace, which goes back to the white knob it seems. I guess I should crank that white knob to "high" so it will think it is cold for sure.
