How tokeep front TV on while moving

I am looking at several Class A and noticed that some units will front TV will turn off when you start the engine. I understand this is for safety reasons i.e. driver should be watching the road and not the TV, but I have two young kids and I would like to let them watch TV while I'm driving (i.e. we do that in our SUV).

Is there anyway I can enable the TV while the engine is running, the TV in above my head and not in front of me so should not be a distraction at all

Thanks

  • In a large number of states it is not a "safety thing" but is against the law for any TV to be operated within the viewing area of the driver. The east coast is particularly bad about enforcing this law, so just be aware of it.
  • Make a nice looking padded shelf that is just big enough to "shade" viewing the screen from the driver's seat. There is a gizmo that connects to audio that allows "Bluetooth" speaker to play near the dinette. I would check with my insurer before I touched anything. You know how insurance companies are...
  • unplug and plug into another receptical, sometimes the one in the same socket. Be ready to pay ticket when police drive by and see tv is on. Better to have kids watch tv in the back
  • Change the power source to the tv. Be aware that you may be breaking some laws if the tv is on while driving.
  • It will be plugged in to an outlet controlled by a tag line from the ignition switch, so you can either unhook the tag line, or move the plug to an always on outlet.
