Some inverters have a 'sleep' mode where it scans for a load every 10 or 20 seconds. If inverter senses a load it will pop on and supply 120 volts. Trouble is sleep mode is looking for a 40 to 60 watt load and may not sense that you want to watch tv or charge a cell phone because the load is so small. The sleep mode will cut that idle draw by ~75%. I think your installer disabled it because of this issue does not play well with most RV use.
Yes if you leave the inverter idle while you sleep it will consume about 16 amp/hrs overnight or 48 per day. Use the remote to power down and conserve power when needed.
