Not really- the ARP device uses an algorithm that basically senses the circulation of refrigerant through a very sensitive sensor- the shutoff point is variable.
All new models come with a basic overheat device, but it is meant as a safety device, not to protect the cooling unit.
As far as level is concerned- the bottom line is level doesn't necessarily matter- what matters is refrigerant circulation.
