Sometimes when you see someone poo poo something, it is because they are seeing it as to how it would deal with just their needs. They don't care if it fits your needs, only theirs because that's all they know.
In my case, my whole system came from craigslist or ebay. I have heard how my panels must be stolen or wouldn't work. How my controller was going to fry my batteries or worse. How my inverter was going to pop the first time I ran a big load and how it's battery is the wrong type, wont last, etc.
Funny thing is I have 720w of usable solar and a 3000w inverter/ battery and for the less than a grand I have into the system, it works great...for us. Then again I don't full time, camp in extreme temps, have batteries with special voltage needs, etc. The only extreme I deal with is altitude, it makes those heaters unusable and that's all I can say about them.
So build a system that fits your needs and take what others say with a grain of salt. Over time you will recognize who has what needs and why, maybe someday your needs will change and their experience will become relevant.
Now if you want rude, I can point you to a solar forum where no matter what you have, they will rip you a new one. lol
