I had been shopping for a replacement generator for my 10 yr old Elim 3000 and had decided on a Yamaha 2400 when I ran across the Champion 3100 Invertor. After some research, I bought the Champion yesterday at the Camping World in Bakersfield, CA. I tested it out today and am pretty happy, but had one little glitch. After the initial start on first pull, I ran on Eco mode, and then normal mode for about 8-10 minutes each, then plugged in and switched on the trailer which has pretty full batteries, so not much load, and could not even tell any change in Eco mode. Had about 121V at the socket. Did a test run of the 1000W micro with a glass of water and the gen kicked up and then down when the micro went off. Ran the A/C fan only and then the A/C. No problems then about 12 minutes into the A/C run, the generator just kicked off, but no indicator lights on the front. I restarted (three pulls) and brought up slowly with no problems and ran the A/C for over an hour and cycled the compressor twice with no issues. Not sure what caused it to kick off the one time, but it seems fine now, even with the long run of the A/C after. I did a cool down cycle, ran the carb out of gas and started again about 4 hours later and did a short run of the A/C without incident.
Anyway, overall, it is quiet and stable and powers everything fine. I will report the one shhutdown to Champion Power Eqpt, and see what they have to say, but I think it was just a one time thing.
I am currently working to mount it in the rear mounted box where I had the Elim, but there is a lot of plastic on this thing! I just strapped the frame bars on the Elim, but this one will require a little more work.
