It sounds like you need more battery capacity and a way to charge them. I would suggest you abandon the small grp 24 and replace with two 6v batteries. A portable solar module that you can position in the sun will do the charging.
Expecting a freshly charged battery to work paralleled with a fully discharged battery is a fool's errand, IMO.
