My preferred method is to stay away, literally, from any generators. As far away as possible. Though at 70-100 ft it is still not far enough to avoid hearing and smelling it. Having to read a book for a couple of hours next to it doesn't sound like fun, especially when you are not much into reading or have other plans for the morning.
He said his fridge has no 12V draw. Basically, he needs very little heating - this is South - and pump and a few lights for 5 days. Cat heater and 2*100 AH batts is the solution, IMO. No charging is needed.
