WHATSOEVER
Local camping store MEC, kinda Canadian equivalent of REI, still sells candle lanterns. Nice design, glass slides in for compact storage. On a hiking trip or multiday kayaking you can't carry a generator, microwave and a set of Tupperware plates. Good news is, you can live and have daily hot meals and proper balance of vitamins without any of this, and you don't even have to know how to make a bonfire, these days. It just takes some preparation - and money. There are light and compact LPG stoves and a variety of freeze-dried foods. In a trailer it's easier yet, you have a good stove and a fridge.
People are still buying those candle lanterns, don't know why. I sold mine as soon as LED headlamps came on market, though still keep a compact candle in trailer, a kind where wax is filling a tin can. Regular candle sticks are melting and losing their shape in a hot weather.
