The counter top units are a little noisy while cooling during the ice making cycle and of course when dumping ice. They make ice in 7 minutes so turn it off when it's full and then back on when you need ice. Most of the time it should sound like a desktop computer fan when the computer is running hot or the air conditioning vents in a car when the blower is turned on high.
We keep ours outside and bring the ice in when ice is needed inside the RV. I shut it off at night so it won't disturb the neighbors.
Unfortunately, the cubes are porous due to the way in which they are made. That means you'll need to refill the ice in your glass more often.
We have one for the RV and One for our home for the patio area. They both work well and are about 5 years old.
