I'll see your $40 and raise you $15 :) - I bought 160W GoPower MSW inverter for $25 on Amazon, and it satisfied some my needs. Big and very quiet Rowenta fan - on of the quietest, in fact - was whining so badly that I had to turn it off. Even a little electric shaver sounded as if it were annoyed with something. GoPower is not a bad brand, but MSW is MSW.
Seriously though - 300W PSW inverter like the one that Don posted earlier, is all that is needed. Unless you use microwave and other kitchen devices - and then you need 1500-2000W.
