Atwood makes the 8500 with no door- it's the 8500IVLD (8500 series 4, less door).
To the matter at hand- you will have to remove the furnace to install the door anyway, so you might as well just pull it and fix it.
If you want to try a quick and dirty fix- try putting a shop vacuum on the exhaust outlet, see if you get any junk out of it.
