" he is installing a access door"
That is a bad idea. The only thing you will be able to see is the exhaust port from that access door. It is like taking a look at the engine of a pickup by cutting a hole in the firewall, and trying to climb in and reach through to get to the distributor.
You should be able to remove a access panel on the inside of the RV, and remove the entire furnace (into the RV living area). When re-installing it, you line up the two exhaust ports, and slide it into place.
Everything is designed to be serviced from inside the RV.
Chances are that the pilot is not lighting, or the igniter is not sensing the pilot is lit, and keeps sparking when there is a flame. There might be a glass cover over where the spark and flame sensor are located, to see the flame inside, or it might be some sort of sealed cap. You should be able to remove the spark assembly, (might have to disconnect the gas line first) and see if the adjustments are right.
In the meantime, try heating with a electric heater, electric blanket, and such. Once I made some coffee on the stove, and kept warm with the heat from the stove. Yet you MUST have a window and roof vent open about 3/8" while the stove is on.
Good luck!
Fred.
