increased insulation for refrigerator

I have a Norcold refrigerator that will not cool to my satisfaction in warm weather. I'm sure this is true with any RV, but if I'm in the hot Texas sun it's difficult to keep temps down in the low to mid 40 degree range.

In the refrigerator compartment I have about 3" between the unit and the compartment interior wall. Even though there is some insulation stuffed in there on each side of the fridge, I'm wondering if I could take several pieces of the sheet styrofoam and place them between the outside of the refrigerator and the cabinet wall?

Think this would help?

  • Shoddy RV MFG. installation and Norcold (or Dometic) will NOT cool properly.

Both Absorption RV Fidge Mfgs have 'instructions' for installaion that detail the proper clearances and requirements.
BUT RV MFGs fail over and over in following those instructions....they think 'Just build a space and screw them in place '

Goggle your Norcold MODEL Installation Manual and see HOW it was suppose to be installed.
Then correct the lack of proper installation done by RV MFG.
(Typical/generic -----side wall clearance/Zero, top clearance/zero/no dead air space and back wall to cooling unit/1"- with baffles if needed to direct/provide proper draft and/or fans if needed)
