The Norcold....
Early one morning I had a dream than the Norcold Failed. When I awoke I noticed the fridge was cycling on and off every couple seconds.
In the months leading up to the failure I noticed I had to turn the dial up significantly to hold sub 40 degree temps, and the duty cycle had almost doubled while it's amp draw, originally at 2.7, had fallen to 1.8. Somehow I let myself believe nothing was wrong. I have enough solar on my roof to deal with the extra load.
After performing a bunch of electrical tests, I took it outside, and gave up on it. I explored the copper tubing closely and there was a green crusty part on the crimped tube leading from the bottom of the compressor. I scraped it with a fingernail and pssssssssssssssssssssssssss. Since there is no way to recharge the Norcolds.........
I was guessing on the size of my Dad's Tundra. I helped him install it at least 7 years ago. ~5 years ago I added a exhaust fan to the large poorly ventilated compartment behind it. The coolng unit is on the bottom of it. That is when I noticed how quiet the Danfoss was. My Norcold was new at the time, buzzing away, irritating me from the get go.
---- The duty cycle without the resistor has now leveled off at 12:43 off and 5:21 on. I can watch the stop watch and anticipate the beginning or end of a cycle varying no more than 10 seconds from the previous cycle. Box temps are 39. Ambient 63.5
