You would want any and all water that gets inside the roof mounted housing from its vents etc to freely flow away from the air conditioner unit... We always like to park with alittle tilt to the backside of the trailer just to keep the air conditioner roof drain to go in that direction in lieu coming down on the patio side...

Man- I drew that back in 2002, now it's all over :)
FWIW, I usually install countersunk screws back in the screw holes when removing a vent, but each install is different. I believe Dometic units still come with foam spacer blocks on the base- once the blocks hit the roof, it really won't compress any more.
