Interesting Relay

https://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-200A-Relay-4-Pin-For-Car-Auto-Heavy-Duty-Install-Amp-Style-Split-Chargeover/123261463650?hash=item1cb2f4ac62:g:Mw0AAOSwz2JbUpi4:rk:14:pf:0

Load it to 200 amps? Take a deep breath.

But for 40 - 60 amp loads, this looks interesting. Especially since it it would serve as a direct replacement interchange for a 30-amp TYCO relay which to me is the finest relay of it's design on the market.

I would glop on the dielectric grease after assembling because moisture getting inside is the bane of any of this style relay.

  • Function of circular mil area of contacts + electromagnetic potential in such a tiny package makes me very wary of potential limit. Like Chinese LEDs that consume 60% of rated wattage, this would be an extension of hyperbole.

There is a shortage of viable products in the 50-80 ampere range. The TYCO unit works fine but the price is a knee-knocker.

Looking at the photos some are identified as "START" relays.. Starter relays have a 30 second on 30 second off duty cycle not designed for continuous on use.

This can be fixed however with a simple R/C circuit.. (Resistor and capacitor in parallel and put the assembly in series) The C provides full current for pull in and the "R" then limits current so the coil does not overheat.
  • .025" Faston terminals are limited to around 30 amps. Even with Delco Packard type terminals. So yes, this relay has the terminals for heavier current.

There are faston terminals 80 amp relays, but the .375" blade are almost impossible to find and when they are found the thinness of the Chinese terminal makes 80-amps unrealistic.

MPJA has ultra low vf rectifiers with as little as .0017 vf (Mosfet configuration) for around four dollars. It's a special.
  • Looks like it would make a decent battery isolator relay.
