- JiminDenverExplorer IIHave never heard of the lake but I'll add it to the list of places to check out. We are usually up near Jefferson and exploring our way down to 11 mile.
I would call the manufacturer and ask if they make the high altitude jets before you buy. Rejetting will have the generator running more efficient but it wont make up for the elevation completely. Unfortunately getting any parts for the lower end generators can be a issue so check that out too.
You can also call then and ask them straight up, this is the elevation I will be at, the A/C I will be using and we want to use YOUR generator. Will it do it? I also asked at rental shops where you could ask if 2000w will cut it from any manufacture.
Now if you do get it and it is almost there. Make sure the converter is off and maybe get a start capacitor for the A/C.
Last thing is it is the end of the season and the deals are to be had on craigslist. You could end up with a much nicer generator with little use if you watch. - edekgbExplorerI won't the most for my money and don't want to over buy (and over lift, and over annoyed by loudness). Ive got it down to Champion, Homelite, and Westinghouse in my spending dollar range. Experiences with Homelite? Westinghouse?
- edekgbExplorerIm starting to wonder if this is just a case of nobody using or trying them (wich can be a bad thing also) or that they have been tried and did not perform well or last.
I completely understand that Honda and Yamaha are tried and true but there has got to be other invert gens out there that can be a reliable alternative to run my little 8k btu ac and 19 ft trailer even if im not running everything at once. We will camp maybe 10 times a year on the weekend for a night or two. - edekgbExplorerAre the Westinghouse genes just not very good. Have people had them poop out on them after a short time of use? Do they have an overall bad rep? Please help before I buy because the review (several) on amazon and home depot sites are very good. I am starting to listen and lean towards Champion but I don't want to discount Wesinghouse inverter gens cuz they seem so quite (you tube sound tests), light, and overall nice but I don't want a small gen that only lasts me a couple of years. Experiences with them??
- edekgbExplorerI agree about free camp spots in the rockies. It's also nice to get off the grid and away and it really does get kinda warm during the day in the mountains and if your in a aluminum trailer I beat it does get like an oven in there even in high elevation. JiminDenver - have you ever heard of a lake called Loch Lomond or Chins lake off of the I-70 exit called call fall river road going toward saint Mary's glacier?
I am starting to hear that 2000 watts will power up and run my 8k ac. Can all genes be "jetted" for altitude or is it only certain ones with a carb kit made for them. Could I take the Westinghouse to a small engine shop and have it "jetted" for altitude? - JiminDenverExplorer IILots of free camping here. We haven't been in a pay CG for years but back then a site with 30a service was $23 at a NFS CG and $25 at a County CG. It was near 100f daily and the Champ would have cost more than that running the AC all day.

What do guys think about Hyundai-HY2000si-2200-Watt or the Hyundai HY2800si 2600-Watt Portable Inverter Generator with electric start? Are they any good?
it states that at max power, it's rated for 64db, which is NOT "whisper quiet". Home Depot says it's 65db at "rated load".
that's about what Champion's open-framed contractor style generator puts out and it only costs around $300.
i'd be interested it what it's rated noise level is at idle. my Honda 2000 is rated around 54db at idle.
also doesn't appear to be used in parallel, like Champion 2000 or the Smarter Tool 2000. - beemerphile1Explorer2,000 watt will easily operate a 8,000 BTU A/C unit. I operate a 5,000 BTU A/C on a 800/900 watt generator.
