Inverter Generator Update?

Well you'll be surprised when you open the box and find that "Honda" is actually a Yamaha EF2400iS. :W Good deal though, lots of YouTube videos on how to get these gensets running properly. :B

Look at Westinghouse also. Couple decibels different...don't even know if it's a notable difference. Hondas 2000i will hold 13.4amps, Westinghouses 2000i will hold 15amps, Yamahas 2400i will hold 16.7amps and Westinghouses 2400i will hold 17.5amps. I've had the Westinghouse 2000i for a couple years. I start it on a regular basis as I haven't had to use it that much camping. It starts right away and is quiet with zero problems. A friend liked mine and bought a 2400i last April. It was leaving a small puddle of oil after running but although Westinghouse has a 2 year warranty, he decided last month to say enough is enough. Westinghouse gave him a service location and he went there but their business license was screwed up and they couldn't look at the genny. A bit frustrated he call Westinghouse and they opted to just send him a new one. It doesn't leak. Just a heads up that there's a good warranty commitment. That and you can nearly buy 2 for the price of one Honda or Yamaha.

I have a Honda 2000 it will run my ac on my AF 990 but I also bought champion 3100 model 75537I with remote so I don't have to go outside to start. it will run ac microwave and anything else I need

Same old story - you get what you pay for. ;) In the case of Honda's EU inverter series it's a proven, dead reliable genset that given proper care will serve it's owner for thousands of reliable hours. Should it ever need parts and/or service it's readily available at any Honda powersports dealer here in Canada or in the US. This series of inverter gensets has also been around long enough now that finding a really good used one with low hours at 2/3rds the cost of a new one is quite easy - I've done it twice now myself and when I later decided to sell I recouped all my cost, in fact the second one I sold for more than I paid for it. :B

Low up front cost is only part of the story when buying a genset. ;)

Yup, sometimes that's true. And there was a time that was probably true for honda. But my reading of the reviews and ratings over the last several months says that time has passed. Champion is making American made products, just as good, at less than 1/2 the price.
There was a time Xerox made far and away the best copying machines. Times change. Everyone should do their own research and make their own decisions.

Sorry meant to type Yahama.. What I really want is an EF-1200i, but the 2400 is second choice.

Not trying to make an argument here, just discussing. I don't think you can make the comparative judgement from reviews and ratings. Some of the reviews and ratings are just disguised advertising, but aside from that, only objective side-by-side tests can provide the answer. And even then, one generator could be better for one purpose, and vice-versa in another situation. Without side-by-side testing there are too many variables like atmospheric conditions, different measuring techniques, and different assumptions, capabilities, purposes and priorities of the testers. The most recent side-by-side Honda vs. Champion test I've come across, a few years old, showed that the Honda was clearly superior handling startup loads like motors.

While we might be debating if another generator is equal to Honda, what really surprises the heck out of me is that after being out for 15 years or so, there's nothing clearly superior to the Honda eu series. Technology-wise, 15 years is eternity.
