Hello all,I bought and installed a Tripp Lite Inverter/Charger.Tripp Lite InverterEverything is working great and it's exactly what I needed. However, when I started my generator and then started my A/C...it blew 2 of the main 30amp fuse...sucked, had to unhitch and drive into town for some new fuses.What could have been the problem. I'm positive I installed it correctly because everything works fine. I can run TV and charge our phones through all of the outlets when on battery power. When I turn on generator, it charges the battery and I can use the microwave.Any suggestions?Thanks!

How about your fridge? Is it working correctly on battery power? i"m wondering if you don't have the battery leads connected with reversse polarity. It SHOULD be negative ground and negative wire is the white wire. If you hook it up backward LOTS of things don't care (lights, fans, slide room, heating devices) but other items require correct grounding. There are two fuses that are DESIGNED to blow if hooked up backward to protect these items. Just something to check and the GOOD news is that is it's backwards, nothing will be harmed once the fuses are installed AND grounding is corrected.Good luck / Skip

I'm going to take a serious good guess here.30+30 = 60 and that inverter is likely capable of dang near twice that when it comes to charge current on the batteries... My guess is that you need to make some adjustments in the inverter's command panel.. Yes, the fridge works on battery but I turn that off and leave it on gas only so it won't drain the battery. The microwave is on (clock is displayed) but I don't run that unless the gen is on. The A/C actually ran for a few minutes, then I went outside for a while and when I went back in everything was off....

Your transfer switch is between generator and shore power and you went to gen but the inverter is still whole house and it can't take the air conditioner?

But if the old converter is also providing a charge you could blow those.

Uh. doesn't the GENERATOR power run through the TRANSFER RELAY in the inverter? Like maybe sorta, the FUSES protect the TRANSFER RELAY. I remember when Trace made a big deal out of their 4024 unit being upgraded to a 60 amp transfer relay.

I think that may be the issue. I didn't know there was a 1500W limit when connected to AC. I thought when connected to AC it would just "pass through"

I'm going to have to look through my manuals to see how many watts my A/C unit is.

It probably has a 13.5K BTU A/C unit on it.

I am not sure what model you have, but my 13.5K A/C takes between 1600-1900W depending on ambient conditions.

I am still not sure why the 30A DC fuses would have blown thou. Are they the 2 that are off on the left of the distribution fuses?

They also shouldn't have had an effect on the generator power, the AC and DC systems should be separate unless your Tripp Lite or Gen went into overload and shutdown, and the Tripp Lite tried to carry the load on DC-AC inverted power.

I suspect the two unmarked fuses are the two REVERSE POLARITY fuses..

DC or AC fuses? DC should be close to 100 amp fuses as it will draw 72a.

Whole house without a transfer switch? I can't imagine how this will work right. Inverter does not look designed to pass through 30+ amps. Are you just plugging the main cord into the inverter?

Yes, I'm plugging in the main AC wires into the inverter. I'm currently at work but I will upload some photos later.

You had to somehow have gone into a mode where the inverter was trying to power the a/c off of inverted power and not generator power.

Hmmmm. You know what...I noticed when I turn on the gen, it takes a while before the display panel in the toyhauler to show that the batteries are charging. There's probably a lag when going from battery power to generator power. When I went to turn on the A/C it was probably during this lag time. Will definitely test later today. Thanks!

Probably a transfer switch with delay (20 seconds?) switching between the generator and main cord. Yes the inverter was probably trying to start the air conditioner. You are not going to get power back feeding to the inverter/charger to charge the battery.

I think you need a 30a transfer switch to go whole house. Or use the internal 15a transfer switch to power a single branch circuit.

Ok, this is what I was thinking. You have the shore power cord or hard wired into the inverter. So when you are on generator you need to unplug from inverter and plug the shore power into the generator.

With no gen/shore power transfer switch like they have in MHs, how can the gen power anything instead of shore power (which is not there when off-grid) ?

Right now if you were on shore power, the inverter would "pass through" with its internal transfer switch, but turning on the gen does not get you any 120 to anything?
