Inverter Powering an Inverter

I have a 2010 Greyhawk with a factory installed inverter that only powers the bunk outlet for the tv. I have installed a 2500 watt inverter that I plug the shore power cord into. Will this cause an issue with the factory installed inverter?

  • No different than plugging into utility power or starting the generator.
Careful what is running or you will quickly drain the battery.
  • Hi,

Since you are in a class C you can run almost all items in the rv while trundling down the road.

    Do turn off the converter.

Is the new inverter pure sine wave? Make and model?
  • The factory installed small inverter will not cause a problem in this scenario. Unplug (turn OFF) the CONVERTER. This is very important...

Don't try to run high wattage appliances or, as previously stated, your batteries won't last long.

Your alternator should keep up with small loads like TV, DVD players, laptops, etc.... while on the road.
  • Thanks
I forgot to mention that the factory inverter has 110 fed thru it ( dont know proper term ). So when Im plugged into shore power it has 110 without the inverter turned on.
I dont have a large battery bank, just 3 group 27 batteries. The inverter was installed so we wouldnt have to run the genny as we go down the road. The kids and DW seem to always want to have someting plugged in.
  • It will work if, you turn off e factory inverter, turn off the electric element of the water heater, turn off the factory converter and finally turn the refer to gas only. Otherwise you will kill your battery in a hurry. Unless you have a very large battery bank to support the inverter it is simply a waste of time and effort.
