Iota IQ-40 ?

Anybody with an Iota tried one of these? The ordinary IQ4 has the problem that as soon as the battery voltage hits 14.6, 15 minutes later the charger drops to 14.2v to do the next stage for up to 8 hours.

The charging profile desired is to stay at the higher voltage for the Absorption stage until the battery bank is full before dropping to a lower Float voltage such as 13.6

It looks like if you have the IQ4 and are suffering from that drop to 14.2, then this new gizmo might be the answer. Be good to get some real world reports on how it actually performs. Does it stay at the higher voltage for a fixed time, or drop to Float when the batts are full?

They say it is just for larger AH banks, but that is just them I guess. You would want this profile for any size bank as long as it drops to Float when they reach full.

Seems they have a bunch of these things. What would the Turbo do instead of the IQ-40? What are the voltages and durations?

  • If it does stay at the higher voltage past when the batts are full, I suppose you could just yank out the controller gizmo and the unit would drop to 13.6 and stay there, which is what the Iota does with no gizmo.

The IQ4 is not like a Charge Wizard. There is no way to pick your voltage stage like you can with a CW.
  • See my image of the TRACE INVERTER charger control from when RONALD REGAN was in office.
  • TROY is "looking Into That At This Very Moment"

does this freeze the bulk charge cycle for 40 hours before advancing to float?

    1 - 855 - 363 - 9527 that is the number to IOTA technical support

i do know the charging phase is extended but I do not think it takes a whole 40 hours to go to float unless necessary

    You (change name)
    Thank You

Ooooooo Troy is a biiiiiiig help. Like Fart In Whirlwind....
  • I am hoping IOTA gets bored with making a dozen different profiles and explaining all the differences to the point IOTA makes a programmable IQ controller for a single solution.

Not sure I like the extended absorption during the weekly boost charge. Prefer something that adjusts based on start voltage or time to bulk voltage etc.
