If it is still heating on the electric side, it has nothing to do with the thermostat, which is the same one for both gas and electric (on that model).
Let it get cold enough to call for heat, flip on the LP switch- does it fire a spark and not light? Does it light but then go out (the original problem, I believe), does it not fire a spark but you can hear the gas valve open?
