Champion makes a high-quality 3500 watt NON-inverter gennie with electric start. They also make a 2000-watt inverter gennie that isn't much more money.
I think you made the right choice skipping solar this year, cat or not. Many of the solar experts here are wild-eyed enthusiasts that fail to see that most of their solar energy harvet somes from stringent coservation. If you want to run your RV properly you're going to need a generator.
As said, the NON-inverter gennies are louder than the inverter types, at least when generating small amounts of power. When both generators are wide open they are equally loud.
Good luck!
The power needed wouldn't be an emotional or social/environmental measurement. It would be mathematical basef on the users daily anticipated ah use use wouldn't it? If someone where to ask what size Genny to buy my first question is will you run the ac? I its only powering fans, laptops, 1 or 2 battery charging solar would be far better.
Solar systems like Bogart engineering do rely on using a generator first to do the heavy charging and letting the solar finish off the light duty loads quietly. I thought the op was in a van and not an RV
