Can I leave a trickle charger plugged in with out damaging converter?
Yes
But NO you should not leave a cheap "trickle charger" connected for very long. They tend to "float" at a voltage that is a bit too high and will make water disappear over time.
OTOH, a smart, automatic small batter tender type charger would be just fine. The onboard converter should be OK too.
And it would be nice to find out NOW if the batteries you have won't support the furnace overnight in moderately cool/cold weather.
