Kwikee electric step linkage

Lets think outside the box. I see 3 options.
1: Drill out the rivets holding the shaft end to the ball socket on the new and old parts. Rivet old and new pieces back together. Or bolt pieces back together. If you use a bolt, the bolt head will need to be thinned. There is very little clearance for the arm to swing by the gear box.
2: Drill out the gear in the housing. Purchase a square file and make the hole ½" square.
3: Grind the new shaft down ¼"
