We had our Kwikee steps stick in the retracted position during a trip, and started doing some of the troubleshooting steps from the manual. I didn't have the specialized test connectors so I took it into the shop. They simply removed the bolts holding the motor in and had the motor hanging loose. The motor turned when opening and closing the door, so something in the mechanism was jammed. They put the motor back in and no issues since. Took a total of 10 minutes. Gave it a thorough dose of KwikLube.
A bad motor WILL work when NOT connected to the mechanism. That is why you tap it with a hammer when it fails. IF the motor starts working when you hit it with a hammer, it has bad windings and will fail again. Doug
