- wa8yxmExplorer IIIWood alcohol is usually not EtOH but another version of alcohol (one that turns into embalming fluid if you drink it) However.. It has most all the same properties as far as a fuel goes.. And it's been around for ... Well let's just say longer than ME.
LOTS longer
There are several other alcohol formulations that might even work better, Denser (Energy wise) cheaper (Long term) and do not eat up our food supply.
But the Govermaurant is sold on Grain Alcohol, the drinking kind. in the tank. - robatthelakeExplorerThe very first Automobiles were built to run on Ethanol but it became evident that Gasoline was a much better fuel for many reasons which prompted Henry Ford and others to design their Engines to run on Gasoline!
It has always seemed a backward step to Me to be pushing even 10% alcohol much less 15%! - Francesca_KnowlExplorerMy stars and garters- it's back!
There was a wood-based "alcohol plant" right here on Hadlock Bay back in the very early 1900's... quite an operation back in the day. They were producing 190 proof alcohol, and by processes that sound very similar to- if cruder than- those evidently in use at the plant in the link posted earlier.
The Classen Alcohol Plant went belly up after only a few years, like almost all industries here....too bad they couldn't have held on for a mere hundred years!
