I would not leave mine plugged in 24/7. I do have solar to take care of the battery bank. Thunderstorms do happen and a surge suppressor is unequal to the task of protection.
Since you don't yet have solar, I would plug in for 24 hours once per week. I'd also plug in for 24 hours before packing the fridge for any trip.
