I tried the panel type of LED lamps a few years ago and didn't like the light distribution or the color, I haven't looked at any of the newer, corncob style lamps for awhile. Are they available in the 2700 to 3000K range now? I prefer the warmer light and my wife only uses the higher range lamps in here sewing lights like her OTT lights.
I have almost every lamp in my S&B changed to Cree and our neighborhood street lights are Cree. I personally love them.
I think the coating on some of the older or cheaper lamps was to contain the envelope if it broke from heat or being struck. New Crees do hot have the coating.
